Joe Corkin, CFA, ASA earned a BS from Iowa State University and an MS in Finance and Certificate in Financial Services Management from the University of Houston. In addition, he is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Society of Houston, as well as an Accredited Senior Appraiser and member of the Houston Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers.
Since joining Davis/Chambers & Company in 2008, Mr. Corkin has performed in over 600 business and limited partnership appraisals. He has worked on numerous engagements for firms and individuals in an array of industries, including engineering, construction, and other specialty contractors, as well as oil and gas field service providers and equipment manufacturers. Mr. Corkin provides clients with valuation and advisory services for a variety of purposes, including tax and estate planning, employee stock ownership plans, buy-sell agreements, mergers and acquisitions, fairness opinions, financial reporting (e.g. share-based compensation, business combinations, and impairment testing), and expert witness testimony.
Mr. Corkin began his career with The Boeing Company as a budget and planning analyst on a missile defense program for the Department of Defense. Later, he joined Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemical, Inc. where he worked with all levels of executive, functional, and project management to develop and report financial performance and forecasts for the multi-billion dollar business unit.
Mr. Corkin taught an investments course as an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the University of Houston-Downtown, and he currently serves on the Advisory Board for the MS in Finance program at the C. T. Bauer College of Business. While attending graduate school at the University of Houston, Mr. Corkin and three colleagues were members of the top American student stock analysis team in the CFA Institute’s 2008 Global Research Challenge.
